Abstract photography concentrates on shape, texture, form and pattern. The focus of the image is often a small part of the idea of the image. Abstract photography is said to 'introduce the viewer to the essence of an object'.
Francis Bruguière
Bruguiere was an American, San Francisco born in photographer who moved to London in 1927 at the age of 48. He became a well known photographer for creating 'dramatically light cut paper designs' he experimented with multiple exposure images to create paper abstractions. The use of lighting is crucial in his images as the light highlights the curves and lines through out the paper due to this the images aren't obviously paper they could be anything by zooming in the paper is taken out of context making it even less obvious what the image is of.
Jaroslav Rossler
Jaroslav Rossler was a Czech photographer born in 1902 who was taking photos throughout the 20th century. He was an Avant Garde photographer he used shadow and light to make images of paper cutouts look dramatic and bold. His images are simple and uncomplicated consisting of lines and shapes made visible by the contrast of light and dark.
First set
For my first set of paper abstractions I used black paper which I took in natural light. These images could be treaty improved by using a all white screen for the back ground next time as well as that I need to avoid getting my hands in the shot which I could have done by using glue to hold the paper in its place or just take more care with my images making sure nothing is in the shot. A positive I took from this experiment was the long exposure blurred images as I think they came out very interesting and theres an opportunity to explore further in to this and improve it.
